May the Fourth be with You

Happy Star Wars day!   I didn’t even know there was such a thing, and yet I guess I celebrated this weekend when I spent Saturday afternoon with The Wayward Saints (Alexa’s improv troupe) at Starbase Columbus. It was nice to be out in the sunshine, but I’m trying to get over a bad sore throat, so yesterday, I spent the day resting and making art.

The lovely and talented LeeAnn Denzler posted a tutorial on her coloring pencil technique, so I gave it a go.  This is based on a template that the talented and generous Ben Kwok provides every week in his facebook group Ornation Creation. It took me the better part of the day (about 12 hours), but I really love my fishy. It was so fun that I decided to try the same techinque for this week’s Diva Challenge, which was to use the tangle Brella. I’m not as fond of this one. I think it is because I had no clear idea of what colors I wanted when I started.  Oh, and if you couldn’t tell, my string is a rather lopsided Death Star. May the force be with you!

  1. Absolutely LOVE your fish. It’s great that you were able to finish it all in one shot; I’m still working on my first Ornation Creation, and still not done after at least a month or more.

  2. The fish is magnificent! I really like the colors in your brella as well as the design. Thanks for sharing the info about the tutorial and the Ornation Creation group. I learn so many new things here from such talented people!

  3. I was thrilled to see your fish because I just today completed Ben Kwok’s beetle car using LeeAnn’s technique. Ben is awesome, LeeAnn is awesome and you are awesome! The wonderful thing is that even using the same template and techinique, we can all achieve very different looks. I love that about zentangle!

  4. Love both designs this week. Your use of the colored pencil is beautiful in both pictures. Thank you for pointing us in the right direction to take a look at the colored pencil tutorial. I have a couple of good sets of colored pencils, both watercolor and non watercolor pencils. I really like the way that you have finished them both. Wonderful work!

  5. LeAnn’s color is always stunning. You did a great job with it. Was not feeling all that creative so did not try any thing related to Star Wars. Like hour Death Star.
