Have you ever noticed that as you are tangling, you are completely focused on getting every stroke “just so,” and then when you finish, you might feel a bit disappointed? Perhaps you are a bit judgmental? (If so, join the club.) But, then later you come back to it and are surprised that it really is lovely?
This happens all the time. I tell my students that the “tangle fairies” come and work on their tiles when they aren’t looking. Or it could be that they are so focused on every little detail that they forget to look at the overall big picture. Try holding your tile at arm’s length or turning it upside down. Sometimes, all you need is a change of view.
