Christmas. Yes, it is beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
Finally back from my trek. 2 concerts, 3 cities, 2 conventions, 1500 driving miles… It is nice to be able to sleep in the same bed for more than 3 nights.
Over on the CZT Facebook page, Christmas ideas have been popping up all over the place. One of my favorites was Pat Methes’s take on my 3D stars. They are gorgeous. Lots of people who were unaware of this little book then went and picked up a copy. What a nice Thanksgiving surprise. Don’t have one? Check it out here.
Anyhow, when the Diva Challenge was to do reticula and fragments AGAIN, I thought I would try doing it on a star. After all, these are always so much fun to do. I did a modified square grid and made up my own fragment: an arc with 3 Aquafleur tentacles on one side.
Since the challenge was to take an asymmetrical fragment and practice rotating, mirroring, etc, I knew I was in trouble. I tried very hard to be careful, and focus, but my brain doesn’t work that way.
I thought I would be making many attempts, so I made a reticula in Photoshop, so I could just worry about putting the fragments in correctly. Only took me 2 tries and I found that doing all of the ones in one direction before switching to the ones in the other direction helped me keep it straight.
It was actually a lot of fun. So, I made another!
If you want to try using my reticula, here is a file: reticula-star you print and try.
Finally, if you are in the area, stop by the Bexley library and make one yourself.
Love your reticula/ fragment Star! Pretty crafty! Thank you for sharing your reticula- Star pattern! I’m going to share this project with my niece when we have our craft sleepover soon! 🙂

So beautiful! I have some of those glitches too and I just accept that I may have to do things more than once or be very creative to make it work! Thanks for the star download; very generous. Off to print it out 🙂

Usually, I accept and make things work, but there are days when I get stubborn and tell myself I will do it as many times as I need to to get it “right.” (Usually it is when I am in “book mode.” I have a totally different mindset when working on a book than I do when I am just tangling for myself.)

How I wish I could come to your class. These stars are so lovely. I think I may try one on my own and pretend it’s homework.

Your stars are so lovely! And the way you created the reticula really opened my eyes to the many possibilities beyond the simple square grids I used.
